If you’re a horse person, chances are you have thousands of photos of your horse, but far fewer beautiful photographs with your horse.
Professional horse and rider photography doesn’t have to be reserved for senior portraits, competitions, or other milestones. The everyday relationship between a rider and a horse is worth documenting too.
I was reminded of that during a recent equestrian portrait session with twin sisters Abby and Sarinah. We created polished portraits with their horses, but some of my favorite photographs captured the moments in between: riding, laughing, and simply spending time together at the barn.
That’s what I love about equestrian photography. Your horse doesn’t need to stand perfectly, and you don’t need a special occasion. The goal is to create beautiful portraits that capture the relationship you already have.
This fall, I’m also offering a limited afternoon of horse and rider mini sessions for riders at Hidden Acres in Connecticut. It’s an easy opportunity to step out from behind the camera and create photographs with the horse you love.
Sometimes the chapter you’re living right now is reason enough to photograph it.
